Game 100: White Sox 1 – Cubs 3

The Cubs win their second straight game against their crosstown rivals.

The scoring started early when Melky Cabrera hit a double to right field bringing home Tim Anderson to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead.

The Cubs would strike back against the Sox ace Chris Sale. After a Fowler walk, Kris Bryant hit a RBI double off the wall to tie the game at one.

Chris Sale got into a bit of a jam in the 3rd inning. He hit Dexter Fowler and walked Kris Bryant to start the inning. After a Rizzo flyout, Ben Zobrist singles up the middle to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead.

Lackey was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the 6th. He went six innings allowing one run and four hits. He struck out four and walked one.

Sale also went six innings. He allowed two runs and six hits. He struck out four and walked three.

The Cubs got to show off their new bullpen power trio of Strop Rondon and Chapman. Rondon allowed a leadoff double in the 8th inning. After retiring the next two hitters Joe Maddon went to closer Champman to record the final out in the 8th which he was able to do by striking out Melky Cabrera.

In the bottom 8th, Ben Zobrist led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on an error by Adam Eaton. After yet another Contreras ground out, Addison Russell hit a grounder to the shortstop Tim Anderson. Anderson tried to fire home but lost the grip on the ball and was forced to throw to first, allowing Ben Zobrist to score giving the Cubs a huge insurance run.

Chapman was able to shut down the White Sox to give the Cubs a 3-1 victory.

Up Next: The Cubs welcome the Mariners for three games beginning tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled at 1:20pm

Final Thoughts: Today we were able to get our first look at the Cubs power trio. Although Strop and Rondon weren’t as sharp they were able to get the job done. Just imagine how scary this bullpen will be when the trio on top of their game.
