NLCS Game 1: Cubs 2-Mets 4

Jon Lester vs Matt Harvey for game 1 of the NLCS.

The Mets struck first in the first inning Daniel Murphy hits a home run to right field to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.

Matt Harvey was untouchable through the first 4 innings. In the 5th inning, he lost his perfect game when he hit Anthony Rizzo on a 0-2 count. Starlin Castro then hit a double over a leaping Juan Lagares in center scoring Anthony Rizzo to tie the game.

After a Jorge Soler groundout, Javier Baez hit a single to left fielder and Yoenis Cespedes threw a strike to throw out Castro at home. With David Ross at-bat, Baez stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Travis d’Arnaud. After an intentional walk to Ross, Lester struck out to end the inning.

The Mets came back in the bottom half of the inning, Wilmer Flores and Lagares hit back-to-back one-out singles. Matt Harvey then bunted to Rizzo who threw to 3rd to get the lead out, Bryant dropped the ball on the exchange.

Cubs were unable to turn the double play, and Curtis Granderson hit a single to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.

In the sixth after back-to-back great defensive plays to start the ending, d’Arnaud hit a solo shot to center field.

The Mets continued to extend their lead, in the 7th inning Lagares hit a leadoff single, then Harvey bunted him over to the second base. Lagares stole third while Granderson was at-bat, then scored on a sacrifice fly.

In the 8th, the Kyle Schwarber ended matt Harvey’s outing by hitting a two-out solo shot. After a Bryant walk, Rizzo came up representing the tying run. He swung at the first pitch and hit a weak ground ball to short to end the inning.

The Cubs would once again get the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Murphy robbed La Stella of a hit to end the game.

QUCK THOUGHTS: I still believe it was a bad time to send Castro in the 5th inning. Cespedes is known to have a rocket. Yes, I understand Ross and Lester were due up next but Ross almost hit a home run in his last at-bat.
